Brief Biography

David Mills is a composer, producer, guitarist, teacher, and instrument designer. He has worked with a variety of artists including Ahmad Jamal and the Pilobolus Dance Theater. David teaches Improvisation for String Players at Neighborhood Music School in New Haven, CT, and he was featured in a PBS documentary Ahmad Jamal with the Assai Quartet.

David received a degree in music from Colgate University, and he also studied jazz at Berklee College of Music and Indian music with Susanto Banerjee in Bombay. He began his professional career as the music director for Millsenblum, a satirical comedy group that performed in New York City cabarets as well as on national television. Subsequently, he became the leader of the Winchester Special, and eight-piece dance band. Through the Neighborhood Music School, David hopes to create a new American dance band, the 10pDB. If successful as a national role model, young people will dance to music performed by their peers rather than a DJ spinning rap records.
