The DoSo Band™

Neighborhood Music School created The DoSo Band as a way to introduce young children to all the different types of instruments. The music is scored for simple-to-play, inexpensive instruments so students can try out a string, a wind or a percussion instrument. The instruments include:

• fretted violin
• 3-string starter guitar
• soprano recorder
• keyboard
• shakers and drums

Naturally, if a student is studying a conventional instrument, it can be incorporated into the arrangement.

The music is taught by using “solfege” – a method of singing the notes ( do-re-mi ), and many of the songs are choreographed for added fun. All songs have sections for improvisation, and the students improvise from day one.

Music is not an end product, it is a form of communication. As such, it transcends language
and takes us to exotic places in the company of exotic people.
